“El-Helm El-Arabi” (The Arab Dream) brought together 23 singers from all over the Arab world — the first attempt at such a mega project since the heyday of Pan-Arabism in the 1960s. Predictably, it was a private production, a staple on Arab satellite channels long before it appeared on Egyptian television — most likely on account of the poignant footage which documented 50 years of Arab-Israeli conflict that accompanied the song.
